The Southwest Coastal Path and because of the lovable absurdities,in the way of lamp-posts, clock towers, canons, parts of London Bridge and even house facades, no wonder it is also known as "Old London by the sea."
The Dorset coast [along with the East Devon coast] has now received World Heritage Status. Many dinosaur species inhabited this area in the Mesozoic period, [ this included the Triassic, Jurassic & Creaceous periods ]. The total length of coastline which forms this World Heritage site stretches 95 miles.
There are of course many types of accommodation, that will suit all pockets. Nearby are Corfe Castle, Langton Matravers and other places of interest, including the chain ferry from Studland to Sandbanks.
Swanage is also reknown for its "regatta and carnival week" where the weeks events and entertainment comes from the hard work and dedication of the carnival committee. To get you into the mood, the week starts with a bang! A grand opening firework spectacular. There is then an enjoyable week for all who come to Swanage, with activities to suit all ages. The week ends then with a grand firework finale'.
The next memorable event is New Years Eve. The "street party" , second only, it is said, to Trafalgar Square, sees upwards of 10,000 people, many in fancy dress. They travel from far and wide to this annual event.
